ABOUT US

What we are all about

.Founded in 1989, Explorer Post 911 is a youth-led EMS program operated by Greenwich Emergency Medical Service. For more than three decades, we’ve introduced high school students ages 14–18 to the world of emergency medical services, blending classroom learning, hands-on training, and real-world experience.

What makes us unique is our approach—we are student-run, student-led, and student-driven, with guidance from experienced EMS advisors. This means members don’t just learn about EMS; they help run the program, make decisions, and lead their peers.

OUR APPROACH

We believe the best way to learn is by doing. That’s why our members:

Lead from Day One

Student leaders organize meetings, coordinate events, and mentor new members, building leadership skills that extend far beyond EMS.

Train Like Professionals

Members learn real medical skills through structured training, simulations, and, for those who pursue EMT certification, actual patient care in the field.

Serve the Community

From covering local events to participating in public safety initiatives, our members are active, visible, and engaged in Greenwich life.

Our advisors—seasoned EMS professionals—are there every step of the way to ensure training is accurate, safe, and relevant. But the energy, teamwork, and drive? That all comes from the students.

WHO WE ARE

Our Community

The Post is made up entirely of high school students from Greenwich and surrounding towns. Members join with different goals—some are future doctors, nurses, or paramedics; others are simply curious and eager to serve. No matter the path, all gain confidence, discipline, and a deep understanding of what it means to step up when help is needed.

Membership Diverstiy

A dynamic team of high school students ages 14–18, each bringing their own passion, skills, and dedication to the Post.

WHY WE DO IT

Decades of experience

Our mission is to empower young people to grow as leaders while learning how to save lives. We follow six guiding principles—that shape everything we do.

For over 35 years, we’ve seen our alumni go on to careers in medicine, public safety, and beyond, carrying the skills and values learned here into every stage of their lives.
